Lake Cleone ↔ MacKerricher State Park
Today our adventures at the coast continue with a visit to MacKerricher State Park!

Today our adventures at the coast continue with some more beach birds!
It must be amazing to be able to see this kind of wildlife right out your front door!
Okay, now off to MacKerricher State Park.
We saw this group of Cormorants hanging out at Lake Cleone...
The lake advertises herons, but we didn't see any there!
And here's the Main Beach:
As we were leaving the Mendocino Headlands State Park, we just happened to see this beautiful Great Blue Heron in someone's front yard.
It must be amazing to be able to see this kind of wildlife right out your front door!
Okay, now off to MacKerricher State Park.

Mendocino Headlands State Park
We've been to Fort Bragg and Mendocino before, but have never checked out Mendocino Headlands State Park. I'm so glad we did because we found this beautiful arch!

And we saw our first ever Pelagic Cormorant, too!
When I saw a flash of red in the trees to my right, I thought I'd spotted something special, but it was simply an ordinary House Finch that we see at home all the time. Somehow he looks even prettier at the coast...

Burney Falls
McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park is a beautiful place to visit. Lake Britton is great for swimming, boating, and fishing...
And Burney Creek separates the falls from Lake Britton...
This 129-foot waterfall simply takes your breath away when you are standing in front of it.
We didn't see any swifts during our visit, but we did see this nest high above the falls...
It looks like it might belong to an osprey, or maybe even a bald eagle.
No wonder the falls were called "the Eighth Wonder of the World" by Theodore Roosevelt!
And Burney Creek separates the falls from Lake Britton...
But the real jewel here is Burney Falls...
This 129-foot waterfall simply takes your breath away when you are standing in front of it.
Behind the falls is one of the few known nesting sights for the black swift.
We didn't see any swifts during our visit, but we did see this nest high above the falls...
